Trump beat reporters have been trying for years to get inside the members-only Mar-a-Lago club. In early 2017, Darren Samuelsohn visited on three different occasions while working for Politico. He found a world of opulence and privilege, where members could rub elbows with the president and his entourage.
The club's main building is a 126-room mansion that was built in the 1920s by cereal heiress Marjorie Merriweather Post. Trump bought the property in 1985 and has since spent millions of dollars renovating it. The mansion is now a blend of Trump's gaudy style and Post's original vision.
Mar-a-Lago has a private beach, a golf course, a tennis center, and a spa. Members can also enjoy dining in the club's elegant ballroom or on the outdoor terrace overlooking the ocean.
Trump's time in office ended, but his estate looms large on Palm Beach. Photos taken by the Palm Beach Post show that the club is still a popular destination for Trump supporters and other members of the elite.
